It's well known now that by the year 2020, over 21% of all West Virginians will be 65 years of age, or older. This trend not only affects West Virginia, it is happening all around our nation and the world.

The WVPEL Partner Summit continues as the state's leading forum on aging issues. We are committed to our mission "to foster opportunities for West Virgnians to live and age with dignity and purpose." For the past six years, we have brought nationally renowned speakers to our state to share the most important issues related to the rapidly expanding elder population. We have also presented innovative projects being done around the state on these issues. We call this forum the WVPEL Partner Summit.

We were pleased to host Dr. Robyn I. Stone, Executive Director of the LeadingAge Center for Applied Research and Senior Vice President of Research, as the keynote speaker for the Partner Summit. Dr. Stone is a noted researcher and a leading international authority on aging and long-term care policy. We also heard updates from the WV Future of Aging and Caregiving Taskforce (WVFACT), as well as on the state's Direct Care Worker training program. Participants also took part in a discussion about how West Virginia could best utilize Direct Care Workers and Community Health Workers; as well as how this state could grow by making West Virginia THE STATE to age in place.
